Among the many great meetings I had in Denver at T+L--braving the sudden huge snowstorm--was a press breakfast briefing about the new Project RED initiative. This is an ambitious research project formed by a partnership between Intel, Apple, Pearson, Qwest and eChalk, and including well known research advisers Jeanne Hayes of The Hayes Connection and Tom Greaves of The Greaves Group.
What's it all about? After decades of instructional technology, there has yet to be a definitive study about the usefulness, effectiveness, cost benefits, bang-for-the-buck, return-on-investment, yada yada of education technology. So what happens? Technology budgets are often the first to be cut, because board of ed. members, administrators, legislators and the public can't see hard data for why it's important. So Project RED seeks to change that. They need as many schools and educators as possible to take the survey and contribute. So go to the site, sign up and do it! That's an order! We need your data to support the importance of technology in education!!
